#CVCollective: All Your Art Are Belong To Us

In 1989, Zero Wing was a popular side-scrolling shooter in Japan. After its success, the game was ported to the European Sega Mega Drive in 1991. It wasn’t a famous game by any means, but the translation was so poor that it resurfaced in the late 2000′s as one of the most popular Internet meme’s ever: All your base are belong to us.

In terms of relevancy to #CVCollective, there isn’t any. I just thought it sounded cool.

The Courvoisier Collective is an art competition that I previously profiled on my blog, where artists from all backgrounds were invited to take part in a city wide search for your best art. Over 150 submissions rang in, included artists of photography, painters, mixed media, even wood carvers – all of which displayed a tremendous amount of talent and creativity.

Last week I was invited to the gallery showing for the top winners. I took a few snaps of my favourite pieces, all of which had their artists nearby to talk about the work and had it on sale. We also had some out-of-this-world snacks (especially the watermelon sorbet cones and marshmallow brownies), and a selection of delicious cocktails (did I just type delicious cock? Gross. Oddly enough, #deliciouscock deserves its own hash tag for reasons unsaid).

On a separate note, I did get to meet Kimberly Lillywhite, creator of one of the winning pieces, Through the Wall. Super sweet girl with a brilliant perspective of social norms and self discovery. You can see her site here.
