Yahoo layoffs have begun today, as Mayer tries to turn around her turnaround

Yahoo layoffs have begun today, according to numerous sources, with conference rooms across all its facilities reserved to tell employees that they have been fired. Sources said the cuts are deep and widespread, up to 15 percent of the staff of the Silicon Valley Internet giant that has not been able to gain ground under its latest CEO, Marissa Mayer. That’s more than 1,500 jobs, with cuts coming in media and sales. Yahoo’s search efforts have been largely spared the ax, since it is an area  ...

“Timber Kings” Set the Guinness World Record for the Fastest Log Car

If you can think of a challenge, someone has likely already set a world record doing just that. The world’s largest pizza? 13,580 square feet. The fastest 100 meters skateboarded by a dog? 19.65 seconds. The most toilet seats broken by the head in one minute? A head-aching 46.  But the fastest log car? This phone’s packaging doubles as a Google Cardboard VR viewer

Most companies encourage you to recycle the packaging their products ship in, but Alcatel has figured out a way to let its smartphone box be reused as something even cooler: a virtual reality viewer. According to VentureBeat, which reports seeing leaked information about Alcatel’s upcoming OneTouch Idol 4S smartphone, the 4S will ship in a plastic box that doubles as a Google Cardboard-compatible VR viewer. Ahead of its earnings call today, Tesla Motors has announced that it will show its Model 3 — a critical, mass-market vehicle far cheaper than the Model S and X that it sells currently — on March 31st, just a few weeks away.
