From the beginning, Tesla Motors founder Elon Musk has stressed his company’s goal of moving the world toward more sustainable forms of transportation, and on March 31st, Tesla will take perhaps its biggest step yet toward achieving that goal.
Oh yes, the long-awaited Tesla Model 3 will officially be revealed to the public, at least in prototype form.
The unveiling ceremony is scheduled for 8:30pm PDT (11:30pm EDT), and it brings into the light the claimed $35,000 and 200-mile range Tesla sedan that will bring the EV brand to the masses; at least, more of them than the Model S and Model X.

In an online announcement earlier this week, the company confirmed that the Tesla Model 3 reservation process kicks off on the day of the unveiling—March 31st—and can be done in one of two ways. You can either visit your local Tesla store during business hours, or you can make a reservation online once the event live stream begins. Expect stiff competition, either way.
Reserving a Model 3 requires a deposit of $1,000 for US customers, and customers in other world markets can expect to see an equivalent price (for instance, Tesla asks €1,000 of EU customers).
If you’re currently a Tesla owner, you’re in luck. The company says reservation priority will go to current Tesla customers first, which get one priority reservation for each Tesla they own. Each of Tesla’s markets are split into individual regions, and each of those will have its own reservation queue.

If all goes to schedule, production of the Tesla Model 3 is slated to begin in late 2017 with the first deliveries beginning shortly afterward. Tesla says deliveries will begin on the US west coast before heading east, followed by deliveries to Europe, Asia-Pacific, and right-hand drive markets.
Undoubtedly, more will become known once “the 3” prototype makes its big debut next week. Until then, stay tuned.
